And Now a Burn

It is the small things. The bumping into walls. The tripping over items on the floor. The banging into the corner of the coffee table. Having to respond by voice because he isn't able to read your facial expression. Having him grab you to assure he has your attention. Unfortunately for us now we can add a burn to the list. All subtle signs of our reality. I can not count how many times I have asked him to stay out of the kitchen while I am cooking. This particular incident happened while someone else was cooking... he didn't see the hot cookie sheet that was on the top of the counter. Thank goodness it is a very small burn and my hope is that it will not leave a scar. His orientation and mobility teacher will be here tomorrow. She will take him out to practice using his cane. He is so young, it is difficult to get him to understand the concept of using it the right way. It is hard to get him to refrain from using it as a toy. It is also hard to get him to understand that he needs it. I trust that in time the understanding of these things will come. For now I am grateful we have had no major incidents...
