Day One of Many

It has been a long day... we arrived at the hospital at 930 this morning.... Husband and I went straight to the Starbucks that is located in the hospital to rev up on caffeine for the long hours we already knew we would be spending at the Eye Center... When we arrived in the waiting area, I noticed another woman whom I saw the day before in the office, sitting alone. I watched the expression of distress on her face and a sadness filled her. I politely walked over and introduced myself to her my impulse was to give her a hug and tell her I knew exactly how she felt and what she was going through but I was not brave enough to be that intrusive so I just sat next to her and we began to talk. She and her family has just started the process of dealing with this disease and she said it helped to have someone who has gone through and is going through the process to talk to. I gave her my email and urged her to keep in touch. After speaking with her I went to the pre-op area to sit with my son. Matt was anxious, he was familiar with the place although he had only been there twice before. He knew he was about to have surgery. Prior to the surgery he was demanding us to let him leave and walk around. Husband walked with him while we waited and I answered all of the repetitive questions. The nursing staff continued to bring different toys for him to play with in an attempt to distract him, but he was determined he was NOT going to stay in that room and wait. soon enough they were ready for him husband went back with him to the operating room so that the last face he saw before going under was a familiar and loving one. In only a few minutes we were directed to go to the waiting room. we sat not saying much for three hours and finally the doctor came out to give us her report. Every thing went well as expected we would be able to see him as soon as he went to recovery. I was the first to arrive the first face he saw when he awoke and I assured him even though you are going to be dark mommy and daddy are going to be here and we will not leave you. Tonight is our last night  here at the Ronald McDonald House I hope to be going home tomorrow.
