Who ever said that raising a child with a visual impairment was easy?
Today husband and I had to sit down and verbally remind ourselves that the behavior that we see on our son, that we would normally want to reprimand is a result of the way he is relating to the world.
He just lives in a different world than we do. I can sit still for almost an hour just staring at a plant.
I would lose count if I tried to recall how much I am visually stimulated in one day. Matt gets his stimulation through what he hears (therefor he seems to yell constantly) . . . what he feels (therefor he engages in a great deal of banging, stomping and jumping around)
We decided it was our job as parents to try and understand the world HE lives in to help him adjust to ours. We are thinking of getting a small bell to ring to teach him another way of calling on us outside of screaming.
